What Can I Do If I’m Not Receiving My Super?

It is surprising, with how important super is, that almost six hundred and fifty thousand Australians are not getting the super that they deserve. Employers are required to pay at least 9.5 percent of your salary (or ordinary time earnings), though many are not seeing that money being put into their super account regularly.

So, what can you do if this is happening to you? Here are some steps that you should take to ensure that you are getting your super money:

Start by talking to your employer. Double check which account your employer says they are paying your super in to. If they are paying it into an old account that you no longer use, you may want to think about consolidating all of your super accounts together so you can keep track of it better (and with less fees). Also remember to update your super account details with your employer!

Check your super statement and contact your super fund if you need help. You can also create an online account with your super fund so you can regularly keep track of your super.  Contact your super fund if you don’t understand your super statement or have any concerns.

If you are still unsure whether your employer is paying you enough (or any) super, talk to the ATO. The ATO will allow you to launch an investigation called an unpaid super enquiry. They will look through your case and keep you updated on your case.
